-
Ticket Sales:
Around 10% to 15% of the revenue comes from selling tickets and match day revenue. The stadiums that host the match get the money through ticket sales; a small portion of ticket sales will be offered to sponsors and the BCCI, and the rest goes into the team’s wallet.
-
Prize Money:
BCCI offers a huge amount of prize money to the winning team and various other awards like Man of the Tournament, Ma of the Match, and other related awards.
-
Merchandise Sales:
Each franchise sells merchandise that includes T-shirts, Caps, Wrist watches and so on and gets a share of money collected from consumers. Around 5% to 10% of revenue comes from merchandise sales, which includes both online and physical retail spaces.
-
Media Rights:
The official media sponsor of the IPL for the last decade was Sony India, vivo, and then it was Dream 11, then Disney + Hotstar, and in 2024, it was Star Sports, with the matches also available on the OTT platform named Jio Cinema. Media rights are sold at very high prices as this is also the way of earning the revenue.
-
Sponsorship Income:
From players' bats to the bails on the stamps, everything within the stadium has a price tag. The sponsors are the real source of income in the Indian Premier League.
